A little girl, her blonde hair up in pigtails, ran giggling through a garden. The garden surrounded a temple, and it was the only place Lutie had ever known. Truth be told the little girl wasn't even interested in what lay in the lands beyond the temple. She had fun right where she was.
She stopped running and giggling when she found a good spot to hide. Lutie moved under the stone bench waiting. She knew that it wouldn't be long before Gabe came through, and she'd jump out at him. This time he wouldn't be expecting her!
Sure enough Gabe came walking through, but to Lutie's surprise he wasn't alone. There was a stern looking woman with him. He politely gestured to the very bench Lutie was hidden under and the woman sat down. Gabe sat beside her and sighed heavily.
"Are you sure this must be done? This has been her home since her parents died." There was a deep sadness in Gabe's voice. Lutie bit her lip feeling guilty for listening in.
"This is no place for the girl. She belongs in Silvermoon with her family. If I had found her sooner I would have taken her off your hands then." The woman sounded as stern as she looked, though there was a hint of gentleness to her voice as well.
"It will be hard to tell her. Lutie has been like my own daughter to me. I understand though, you're her aunt and I'm sure she'll be happy to know she has some family still."
Lutie's heart pounded in her chest. They were talking about her? She would have to leave her beloved temple? It was all she could do to hold back her tears. She barely paid attention to the rest of the conversation, focusing only on stifling her sobs. Finally the two stood and the woman walked back towards the building. Gabe hung back and once she was out of sight Gabe turned and knelt down, gently pulling the crying child out from under the bench. He'd probably known she'd been there for a little while. He lifted her up rocking her gently.
"I don't want to go..." She sobbed softly and she wrapped her small arms around him.
"Shhhhh. It will be okay Lutie. You can always come back and visit the temple. Besides your aunt will take good care of you little one, she has missed you. She's been looking for you for a long time now."
His words did little to comfort her and he held her for a while until finally she had stopped crying. He wiped away her tears and set her down. He ruffled her hair, which got a small smile from the little girl. He reached down and took her small hand in his and led her inside. Her Aunt was waiting inside, and at the sight of the girl the woman's stern expression softened and she knelt down smiling at her.
"Hello Lutie. I am your Aunt Lyllytha." She paused for a moment as she looked at Lutie. "My my, you look just like your mother little one."
Lutie smiled a little. She didn't know much about her parents, so it made her feel good to know she was like her mother. She was still sad to leave the temple, but her aunt seemed like a nice woman. She stayed the night there, but in the morning Lutie packed her things and left. Gabe was waiting outside for them to see them off. He hugged Lutie one last time and tucked a flower into her hair. She smiled at him, flowers were a love the two shared. She had always helped Gabe in the gardens.
Her Aunt helped Lutie up into the carriage and then climbed in after her. As the carriage set off she twisted around and looked out the back window staring at the temple until it was no longer in sight. She hoped to one day return to it.
